Title: Allowing Nuclear Power Facility Construction

Vote to pass a bill that repeals the prohibition on construction of nuclear power facilities.

Highlights:

-Authorizes the Public Service Commission to certify a nuclear power facility if it finds the following (Sec. 2):

    -The plan for storage of high-level nuclear waste for the nuclear facility to be certified is in "full conformity" with technology approved by the authorized agency of the U.S. Government; and -The cost of storage of high-level nuclear waste is known with "reasonable certainty."
-Prohibits the construction of low-level nuclear waste disposal sites, except as provided in Kentucky Revised Statutes 211.852, and requires the Public Service Commission to determine if the construction or operation of a nuclear power facility would create low-level nuclear or mixed wastes that would be required to be disposed of in low-level nuclear waste disposal sites in Kentucky (Sec. 2).
